A Rare Massive Sancai Glazed Pottery Figure of a Camel

Tang dynasty
Standing foursquare with its head raised in an evocative bray, the entire body and legs with a streaky amber brown glaze, the tufts of hair on the forelegs and feet left unglazed, the beast bearing a saddle cloth with applied large packs with monster masks, the saddle appended with a pilgrim bottle and twist of yarn, the cargo highlighted with green and yellow glazes.
