Provenance
Christie's, South Kensington, 11th May 2001, lot 133
Fenton started making his over 40 negatives of still lifes in the summer of 1860 when persistent wet weather made landscape photography arduous. This was actually his last series of photographs; in 1862 he resigned from the Royal Photographic Society, of which he was a founding member, sold all of his equipment and negatives and returned to practicing law.
