Immense Admire Meteorite
Stony-Iron Pallasite
Admire, Lyon County, Kansas
Discovered in 1881, Admire is unique among pallasites in that its olivine crystals display chatoyancy, a fascinating change of luster due to the way in which light is reflected. The present specimen is an impressive and is perhaps one of the largest specimens of this distinctive meteorite, displaying large olivine crystals in a brightly polished matrix. Polished on the front and reverse and bottom, but still retaining the original fusion crust on most sides. Weighing approximately 23 lbs (10.6 kilos or 10,600 grams). Measuring 10 1/2 x 7 3/4 x 4 1/2 in (27 x 20 x 11 cm)
