Often considered the most beautiful and decorative species of the famed Green River Formation, fossilized palm fronds are considered a rarity. Living on the edge of a prehistoric lake system during the Eocene, this palm frond would have detached from a tree, floated to the lake bottom and fortuitously, in the frigid cold, anoxic (lacking oxygen) conditions, been covered with silt and preserved for all time.
