Giant Fish Skull from Kansas
Xiphactinus audax
Cretaceous
Niobrara Formation, Kansas
When dinosaurs roamed the landmasses, the monstrous Xiphactinus menaced the intracontinental seaway which separated the western third of North American from the rest of the continent. Xiphactinus was the largest bony fish to have ever inhabited the planet. The present magnificent Xiphactinus skull specimen boasts gorgeous preservation, including nicely preserved, formidable teeth and several vertebrae. It has been mounted in a faux matrix, a customary display method for fossils from this locality due to the highly friable nature of the matrix in which these treasures are found. Measuring 37 ¼ x 25 x 4in
