Superb Fossil Fish Mural – Framed and Cleated for Wall Display
Diplomystus dentatus, Mioplosus labracoides, Notogoneus osculus, Cockerellites liops
Eocene
Green River Formation, Wyoming
Known the world over as a fossil lagerstatte, an accumulation of fossils representing a cross section of an entire ecosystem, the Green River Formation yields spectacularly well preserved 52-million-year-old specimens and is especially well known for its fine fossil fishes. In the present marvelous piece, four distinct fish species appear to playfully swim across a prehistoric limestone aquarium. The gorgeous natural color patterns are caused by the leaching of iron from the volcanic layers found within the famous 18-inch layer horizon. Framed in exotic wenge wood and cleated for ease of display on any wall of conventional construction. Measuring 72 x 39in; Largest specimen measuring 19in
