Assemblage of Prehistoric Shells
Gigantopectin restitutensis
Miocene
Lacoste, France
A dramatic and stunning display of fossil scallops from a Miocene shoreline sediment, this natural assemblage of twenty-seven fossilized pectin shells would be equally at home in an invertebrate collection or as a decorative focal point. From a genus of large scallop, a marine bivalve mollusk, the naturally blanched assemblage emphasizes the interesting texture and three-dimensional depth of each specimen, positioned as discovered in limestone matrix. The specimen has been backed with high-grade birch plywood and is fitted with a cleat system for ease of wall display. Measuring 26 x 26 x 4in. Diameter of largest shell measures 7in
