Provenance:
Purchased fully restored from Horological Workshops, Guildford, Surrey in 2016. The accompanying invoice states the movement carries the oval stamp of Henri Jacot.
Jacot were Parisian makers of fine carriage clocks, Henry Jacot senior died in 1868; according to his obituary, his end was saddened by a "cruel mistake" at the 1867 Exhibition, when he had not been awarded a medal, but only an "Honourable Mention". It was rectified and he was later awarded a silver medal. Henry senior was succeeded by his nephew, Henry junior, who continued the enviable reputation of the company.
