The further inscription on the reverse of the canvas reads:

The British Post Office packet Hinchinbrooke was attacked [by] the American Privateer Grand Turk off the Azores. After a furious exchange and two attempts by Grand Turk to board, the weaker Hinchinbrooke managed to drive off the other ship and continue home to Falmouth.
