A Robert Banks compound and simple microscope, English, 1811-1820,

signed Banks Maker to H.R.H.the Prince Regent 441 Strand London, the body tube with conical lower section mounted above rectangular stage, sub-stage condenser and plano/concave reflector with folding tripod stand, in fitted mahogany case with four objectives with lieberkuhns attached, seven objectives, three aperture swivel stage, stage forceps and two stage specimen holders, fish plate, cone diaphragm, ivory cork and plain discs, the case with brass carrying handles at the sides, 16in (40.5cm) wide

George was Prince of Wales until he became Prince Regent in 1811. He ascended to the throne in 1820 and consequently this microscope was made between 1811 and 1820. Robert Banks was at 441 Strand from about 1796 until 1827.
