A Culpeper-type compound monocular microscope, English, circa 1740,

with brass eyepiece and sliding cover, turned ebony nosepiece, green vellum draw tube with five numbered focusing points, grey stained rayskin outer tube, raised on three brass columns of diamond section above black stained octagonal base with concave reflector and drawer with five numbered objectives, turned ivory boxes with mica slips, stage condenser and sprung slide holder, in mahogany and oak pillar case with drawer in the base fitted with bone and ivory specimen slides, two brass mounted slides, fish plate and forceps, the microscope unextended 15 1/2in (39.5cm) high
