A Turkish Brass-Mounted Kilij
Probably Reign Of Abdülaziz (1277-93 A.H. Corresponding To 1861-76 A.D.)

With broad curved blade (some areas of pitting) of characteristic form double-edged and cut with lines in front of the yelman, the latter damascened with gold arabesques, the forte damascened in gold with a symmetrical design of arabesques over both sides, a gold-damascened cartouche on one side inscribed 'There is no youth except 'Ali' and 'no sword except dhulfaquar' in Arabic, and with a roundel on the other inscribed 'The servant of the king of trusteeship 'Abbas' in Persian, hilt comprising quillon-block with foliate engraved border, pointed langets and tapering quillons each with bud-shaped terminal, reeded silver grip-strap, and rounded stained horn grips, the pommel pierced for a sword-knot and with chased drop-shaped mount on each side, in original wooden scabbard covered in black leather with brass wire seam along the inside, deep border engraved locket and chape decorated with foliage, shaped suspension mount, and two later suspension rings
