Meiji era (1868-1912), late 19th/early 20th century
The cover inlaid with an elaborate cluster of assorted flowers in white and coloured shell including ajisai (hydrangea), botan (peony), suisen (daffodil), aoi (hollyhock) and sakura (cherry), all the sides of simulated basketwork, the interior and base of plain dark wood; unsigned. 5.1cm x 12.7cm x 9.8cm (5in x 5in x 3 7/8in).
