Comprising a circular lacquer kogo (incense box) and cover decorated with an abstract three-leaf crest design on a wakasa-nuri lacquer ground, unsigned, 3cm x 7.5cm (3in x 1¼in); the second a red-ground gourd-shaped box, decorated in iroe hiramaki-e with gourds, leaves and vines, 8cm x 1.5cm x 4.2cm (3 1/8in x 5/8in x 1 5/8in); the third in the form of a spinning wheel on its frame, lacquered with a praying mantis and beetle on a simulated mokume (wood-grain) ground, 6.1cm (2 3/8in); the fourth a kogo (incense box) in the form of a stylised tanchozuru (red-crested crane) seated and looking back, preening its plumage, the interior of red lacquer, 5.3cm x 3.2cm (2 1/8in x 1¼in); the fifth a sake cup, lacquered in gold and silver takamaki-e with three korogi (crickets) amidst grasses, 8.2cm (3¼in) diameter.
