A rare boxwood manju netsuke

Edo period (1615-1868), 19th century
Finely carved and pierced with the junishi (twelve animals of the East Asian zodiac), each carved in a naturalistic manner, the eyes of the animals inlaid; inscribed in an oval reserve Aizu jin (a man of Aizu) with a kao. 3.8cm (1½in) diameter.
