The Tutti Frutti design was introduced by Pierre Cartier in 1901 with a necklace commissioned by Queen Alexandra to be worn with an Indian gown. The Tutti Frutti marries elements of Eastern and Western design as the pieces are set with brightly coloured sapphires, emeralds and rubies which are carved using traditional Indian techniques combined with French diamond mounting.
Cartier soon added bracelets, ear clips, necklaces, brooches and watches, such as the present example, to the collection.
