Having studied watchmaking in London and at the prestigious WOSTEP program in Neuchâtel Peter Speake-Marin has gone on to become one of the leading lights among modern independent watchmakers, working with such illustrious brands as Harry Winston, MB&F and Maîtres du Temps.
Following his graduation Peter worked for the renowned Somlo Antiques developing their restoration department and working on pieces from such lauded names as Arnold, Frodsham, Nielson as well as complicated early pieces from Patek Philippe and Breguet.
After his time in London, Speake-Marin returned to Switzerland to work at Renaud & Papi, developing and building highly complicated movements.
In 2000 Peter created the first watch to bear his name, a tourbillon pocket watch fittingly called The Foundation which gave him entry to the AHCI (Académie Horlogère des Créateurs Indépendants). In 2003 The Original Piccadilly watch was introduced, named after the arcade in London where Peter had worked while at Somlo's.
The current lot is one of his earliest executed pieces and will be a wonderful addition to any collector looking to explore independent watchmakers.
