The so called Alaska Project from the 1970s was a research programme to design a watch which could withstand the life threatening temperature conditions experienced by NASA astronauts on the moon. Omega designed a removable case in red anodized aluminium which was supposed to withstand extreme changes in temperatures anywhere from -150 degree Celsius to 260 degree Celsius.
In 2008, Omega launched a limited series of 1,970 watches to commemorate the prototypes of the Alaska Project.
