The Reference 2540 was produced from 1954 to 1960 and was Patek Philippe's first square self-winding wristwatch. It is also nicknamed the "TV" Patek Philippe because of its unique square cushioned shape.
Ernst Hausmann, a talented watchmaker, arrived in Rome from Duisburg, Northern Germany in around 1870 and bought a successful watchmaking business from Innocenzo Ricci that had been in business since the late 18th century. He employed numerous highly skilled watch technicians to work on the premises and in 1891, 'Hausmann and Co.' was born. The Hausmann Company is still in business today in the same location and continues to retail fine watches.
