Patek Philippe. A fine and rare double factory sealed platinum perpetual calendar chronograph wristwatch with moon phase

Date: Circa 2008
Movement: 24-jewel Cal.CH27-70/155 manual wind, adjusted to heat, cold, isochronism and 8 positions, freesprung Gyromax balance, Stamped with Seal of Geneva, No.3931199/4488499
Dial: Black, applied polished baton hour markers, white outer minute track with Arabic five minute markers, further white outer tachymeter scale, subsidiary dials at 3, 6 and 9 for date, constant seconds, 30-minute recording, second time zone, leap year indication, aperture for black moon phase with silvered stars and moon, day/month aperture at 12, polished leaf hands with centre chronograph hand
Case: Brushed and polished round, screw down exhibition back, quick set buttons in the band at 6, 10 and 12, diamond set at 6, crown flanked by twin buttons
Strap/Bracelet: Fitted black Patek Philippe leather strap
Buckle/Clasp: Signed platinum folding clasp
Signed: Case, dial & movement
Size: 40mm

Footnotes

Perpetual calendar chronographs have been in Patek Philippe's catalogue since 1941 with the Ref.1518. Ref.5970 is the fifth in the Patek family of these complicated watches and as well as taking inspiration from earlier models such as the Ref.2499, also introduced original features including leap year and 24-hour indication.

The production of the 5970 commenced in 2005 with the yellow and white gold versions stopping in 2008. The platinum version was the last to be produced and was eventually replaced with the introduction of 5270.

Whether vintage or modern, the perpetual calendar chronograph has always been the most desirable complication for collectors.
