the central field with floral sprays and leaves, the delicate spiralling tendrils interlaced with palmettes and other flowering foliage, on cream ground, a signature discernible on one end, translating 'Woven in Iran, Isfahan, [by] Sayrafiyan'

The present vendor's grandfather and thence by family descent.

The offered lot was reputedly woven by the the founder of Seyrafian, as opposed to Sadegh Seyrafian and other members of the famous weaving family.

Buyers' Premium and Charges

28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
