A blue and white 'makara' bowl

Chenghua six-character mark, Kangxi
The bowl rising from a short foot rim to a gently flaring mouth, the exterior with four makara-type beasts writhing amongst lotus sprigs and above a ruyi-head border, the interior with further beasts and a central double-vajra motif.
21cm (8 1/4in) diam.
