A Henan russet-splashed black-glazed jar

13th century
Of ovoid form flanked by a pair of strap handles well defined with vertical ribs, the body covered overall in a black lustruous glaze enriched with streaked patches of caramel-brown and falling short of the lower body to reveal a thin transparent glaze extending to the foot, fitted box.
