A pair of small Capodimonte vases, circa 1747-52

Footnotes

For a discussion of this type of decoration on Capodimonte porcelain see Angela Caròla Perrotti, Le Porcellande de Borbone di Napoli (1986) p. 130ff. The shape of these vases can only be compared to a spectacular vase of much larger size in the Victoria and Albert Museum (also published by A. Mottola Molfino, l'Arte della Porcellana in Italia (1977) plate XXV). The shape of these vases is based on Asian examples. A cup and two saucers with a similar oro e bianco decoration depicting chinoiserie figures are in this sale, lot 41.
