Footnotes
Sir Thomas Anburey of the Bengal Engineers made a series of sketches whilst surveying a route in India in 1792 and 1793. A selection of these sketches were later transformed into hand coloured aquatints by Francis Jukes and published in a bound folio entitled Hindoostan Scenery. Consisting of Twelve Select Views in India Drawn on the Spot by Thomas Anburey. The present lot is after plate 3 of the same title. The original drawing by Anburey on which the print is based is in the Yale Centre for British Art.
