The journal of the Swedish explorer and naturalist Pehr Osbeck (1723–1805), who went by ship to China to study the flora, fauna, and people of the Canton region; sold with Avril's earlier account of his mission to find an overland route to China in 1685, by way of Cyprus, Syria, Asia Minor and Persia before he was turned back at Astrakhan.

Provenance: First work, James Lewis, ownership signature dated 1835; second work, early ownership signatures of Charles Hind, Oxford, 1711.
