A new world auction record for the artist was established in these rooms last year for a painting similar to the present work. Titled The Conscientious Objector and also depicting a gentleman lit by lamplight and wearing a pink scarf, it went on to achieve £115,300 on 18 November 2015.
Please note that the title of this work is 'Portrait of James Henry Dowd'.
