with draw tube focusing, circular stage with concave reflector below, on mahogany base with drawer at the front opening to fitted interior with five numbered objectives, live box, fish plate, spring stage and set of bone mounted slides, in mahogany pillar case with John Hewitson trade label applied to the door interior, microscope on base 17in (43cm) high

The trade label is printed with John Hewitson's address as 18 Dean Street, Newcastle on Tyne where he is registered as having premises in 1844 before moving to 20 Grey Street in 1846.
