cartouche A New GLOBE of the Earth by James Ferguson, the sphere applied with twelve gores printed with map including California as a peninsula, Australia and New Zealand drawn to the Dutch discoveries and showing Anson's track, in brass meridian divided into quadrants of degrees, in horizon ring applied with printed calendar and zodiac scales, on fur turned mahogany legs with stretcher, 5in (13cm) high

Footnotes

The instrument maker, James Ferguson (1710-1776), acquired the stock of John Senex in 1755 which included all the plates for the printing for globe gores apart from the 3-inch model. Ferguson therefore designed his own example.
