LIBERTY: A large Arts and Crafts silver standing dish

marks for Liberty & Co, Birmingham 1918
The shallow circular bowl supported on a swelling stem, spreading foot, the whole with hammered finish and with sixteen glass cabochons, with political inscription, height 30cm, weight total 48oz.

Footnotes

The inscription reads: "Presented To W. Pearce-Ellis Esq. By Friends and wellwishers in the Evesham Parliamentary Division in recognition of his sterling fight for Parliamentary Freedom and Liberal Principle December 1918"

William Pearce-Ellis was the candidate for the Liberal Party in the 1918 General Election.
The 'parliamentary freedom' referred to in the inscription may refer to the Representation of the People Act 1918 which, amongst other reforms, was the first to allow the inclusion of some women in the political system, partly due the efforts of the Suffragette movement.
