A Benjamin Cole waywiser, English, mid 18th century,

signed Cole, Maker at the Orrery, London, the dial operates with a single hand, and a differentially rotating inner chapter ring disc, to give distance in yards, poles, furlongs and miles. Both disc and hand must be zeroed to operate. A single start worm drives an 80 and an 81 tooth wheel simultaneously. In oak frame with iron tyred spoked wheel, on later oak display stand. 50in (127cm) high
