A 19th century bronze group of the Farnese Bull after the antique
Footnotes
The present group is based on an original marble sculpture which was excavated from the Baths of Carcalla in 1545. The following year it was transferred to the Palazzo Farnese, Rome. Subsequent to the restoration of the sculpture in the 1550s under the direction of Michaelangelo, it was repositioned in the palace courtyard for use as a fountain. In 1826 the 'Farnese Bull' group was exhibited publicly for the first time at the Museo Borbonico, which later became the Museo Nazionale in Naples.
