A pair of Italian 16th century gilt and polychrome decorated figural pricket candlesticks
each modelled as a kneeling angel, resting a sprially turned pricket candlestick upon his knee, with outstretched wings, on integral shaped bases, 31cm wide, 33cm high (12in wide, 12 1/2in high). (2)

The basic composition of the present candlesticks is derived from Michelangelo's marble putto holding a candlestick which forms part of the Arca di San Domenico (Ark of Saint Dominic) in the Basilica of San Domenico in Bologna, Italy.
