Footnotes
This watch is known to have belonged to the current owners great Grandfather, the respected businessman, Thomas Whitemore Chant. It is believed this was presented to him for 'good works in the City of London'. Mr Chant was highly regarded and had dealings with various organisations at the highest level, twice being asked to be an Alderman of the City. It is also believed that one of these organisations purchased the watch, but it is not known which. Mr Chant died in 1927 leaving the watch as a specific bequest to the current owners Grandfather and it has stayed in the family ever since.
