The second a year later, moved to the No.2 station and having beefed up to 12st 4lb defeated Cambridge by 3 1/4 lengths, the exhausted Cambridge crew having failed to cross the finish. Finally in 1894 in the same station, beating Cambridge by 2 1/4 lengths. He was in the winning Grand Challenge Cup crew for Leander in 1894, beating Thames Rowing Club in the final by 1/2 length. His Magdalen colleague and fellow crew member in the 1893 Boat Race V Nickalls, was second in the Diamond Sculls.
