A solid silver Prize Memorial Trophy, M.C.Pilkington.

In Rose bowl form, with foliate foot ring and decorated with inset Prize Medals from the rowing career of M.C.Pilkington, Eton and Oxford.
The medals; Revd. Hales House Fours 1891, Trial Eights 1892, Eton Eollege. O.U.B.C Trial Eights 1892, College fours, 1893, Head of the river 1893,1894,1895, Magdalen College. Oxford v Cambridge Boat Race Putney Medal 1893, 1894, 1895. Henley Grand Challenge Cup 1894, Leander. The base inscribed MCP Sept.1st.1897 Hallmarked London 1897.9ins.(23cm)diam. 1610gms

Footnotes

M.C.Pilkington rowed in three consecutive winning Oxford Boat Race Crews; the first in 1893 as a freshman of only 11st 11lb, he stroked the winning crew to a record time not surpassed until 1900. The second a year later, moved to the No.2 station and having beefed up to 12st 4lb defeated Cambridge by 3 1/4 lengths, the exhausted Cambridge crew having failed to cross the finish. Finally in 1894 in the same station, beating Cambridge by 2 1/4 lengths. He was in the winning Grand Challenge Cup crew for Leander in 1894, beating Thames Rowing Club in the final by 1/2 length. His Magdalen colleague and fellow crew member in the 1893 Boat Race V Nickalls, was second in the Diamond Sculls.
