An ivory and ebony netsuke of two South Sea Islanders

By Jugyoku Ryukosai II, circa 1880
Shown sitting clasping their prize of a large branch of coral, both wearing shorts, one in ivory, the other in green stained bone, both with inlaid eyes, around the coral is wound a rope of gold wire, signed on a raised ivory reserve on the ivory shorts Jugyoku. 5.7cm (2¼in).
