By Kinjo Ikkosai IV (1876-1961), early 20th century
Carved from a single section of wood, naturalistically rendered with the leaf curling over at one end and the stalk at the other, applied in relief with different species of insects crawling over the edges, including a hotaru (dragonfly), a tentomushi (ladybird), a batta (grasshopper), and an ari (ant), signed Kinjo Ikkosai. 52.2cm (20½in) long.
