The first of tobori type, depicting Hotei seated, leaning on his sack and smiling, wearing a loose hat and a robe which leaves his chest and stomach bare, the underside engraved in kebori with a dragon and foliage, unsigned, 5.4cm (2 1/8in); and a seal netsuke of Sofu, the divine herdsman, standing by a large ox on a rectangular base carved on the ends with scrolling flower heads and beneath with a seal, the ivory with a good patina, unsigned, 4.2cm (1 5/8in).
