EXHIBITED:
New York, Brooklyn Museum of Art, and elsewhere, Eastman Johnson Painting America, October 29, 1999-February 6, 2000, pp. 105, 108, no. 62, illustrated.

According to T.A. Carbone's essay, "The Genius of the Hour: Eastman Johnson in New York, 1860-1880," published in Eastman Johnson Painting America, the present work likely depicts the artist's wife, Elizabeth (p. 105).

This work will be included in the forthcoming catalogue raisonné of the artist's work being compiled by Dr. Patricia Hills.
