Private Collection, Italy

During his short career, Marieschi alternated realistic views of Venice with fanciful ones, or capricci. These small views are stylistically less formalised than the vedute and show a rapid execution with fluent brushstrokes, typical of the artist. The staffage is most likely by a different hand, as not unusual for Marieschi (see: F. Montecuccoli degli Erri and F. Pedrocco, Michele Marieschi, La vita l'ambiente, l'opera, Milan, 1999, cat. nos. 41-48).

The attribution was confirmed to the present owner by Ralph Toledano and Filippo Pedrocco.
