The present view of Campo San Giovanni e Paolo is an unusually large work by the painter traditionally known as the Master of the Langmatt Foundation views who has been identified by Dario Succi as Apollonio Domenichini. This view of San Zanipolo with the equestrian statue of Bartolomeo Colleoni by Verrocchio is derived from the original composition by Canaletto, dated 1725, known in different versions by both the aformentioned master and by Bellotto, Marieschi and Francesco Albotto.

Apollonio Domenichini reached the peak of his production between the 1740s and 1750s, during Canaletto's stay in England, and his views were much appreciated by Grand Tourists. A further version of the same view by the Langmatt Foundation Master was sold at Christie's, London, 7 July 2006, lot 235 (sold for £102,000).
