The S.S. Zacapa was built by Workman, Clark and Co. Ltd, Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1909. She was built for United Fruit Steamship Company,under a British flag, and ran the New York-Cuba-Jamaica service. She had an LOA of 378 feet, and a beam of 50 feet, and weighed 5013 gross tons; she was powered by a steam triple expansion engine, single screw and her service speed 15 knots.
