An ivory netsuke of a baku

Kyoto, 18th century
Seated four-square, its head raised and facing ahead as it bays, its single horn pressed against its pronounced backbone and its legs drawn in for compactness, the rather worn ivory bears a fine patina and the eye pupils are inlaid, unsigned. 6.9cm (2¾in).
