A stag-antler netsuke of a shishi

By Ishikawa Rensai, Asakusa, Tokyo, late 19th century
Sprawling on a large pierced base, protecting a small brocade ball, its long tail trailing to one side, over the rounded rectangular base which is pierced with a formal design, the slightly-worn antler bears a good patina and the eyes are inlaid, signed Ren. 4.7cm (1 7/8in).
