A boxwood netsuke of a shishi

By Tametaka, Nagoya, 18th century
Seated, its head raised and turned to the right as it clutches a large ball to its stomach with all paws, its long tail trailing beneath and one hind leg forming the himotoshi, the well-toned wood is somewhat worn, signed in an oval reserve Tametaka. 4.2cm (1 5/8in).
