A pair of Meissen purple-ground teacups and saucers, circa 1740

Each saucer painted with a river scene within iron-red concentric circles, the well of the cups with similar scenes and the outside reserved with a similar scene within a shaped quatrelobe reserve, gilt-edged rims, the handles with gilt strapwork, crossed swords marks in underglaze-blue, impressed 2 inside footrims of saucers (tiny rim repair and some tiny spots of retouching to ground colour on one cup) (4)
