A rare Harlingen pot and cover, circa 1770
Attributed to Pals Karsten, standing on three everted short feet, the shallow handles shaped as cherub's heads, the domed cover with a double cylindrical band and knob, decorated in blue with large floral sprays, 20cm high (cover and knob broken and restuck, minor chips) (2)
Footnotes
Two money boxes by Pals Karsten which are highly comparable to this covered pot are in the Harlinger Aardewerk Museum in Friesland, the Netherlands, and have recently been published by Jan Pluis, Fries Aardewerk, Harlinger Producten, 1720-1933, 2005, cat. nos. 52a and 52b. Two large vases with the same stylistically striking discs or cylindrical bands as on the knob of this pot are illustrated in the same book on page 35.
