A very rare Dutch Delft figure of a bagpiper, circa 1760-75

Wearing a cobalt blue jacket with red cuffs over yellow breeches, his pockets detailed in green and manganese, seated on a wooden barrel standing on a grassy base with feathered detailing on the sides and an inscription 'Vroeg Bedorven' (spoiled early), 28cm high (minor typical glaze losses)

This bagpipe player was originally sold as one of a pair. Aronson (op.cit.) notes that another similar bagpipe player made by De Porceleyne Bijl factory is in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, as illustrated by Fourest 1957, pl. XXXII, no. 4, and by Neurdenberg and Rackham, p.XLIX, fig. 77. Another bagpipe player is illustrated in Aronson 1996, ill. 19.
