PROVENANCE:
With Leonard Koetser Gallery, London, Spring 1968, cat. no. 33 (as Aert van der Neer)
Where purchased by Christopher Sands and thence by descent to the present owner
While many of van Borssom's drawings show the influence of Rembrandt, his paintings are rather more eclectic in style. These included: a number of church interiors in the manner of Gerrit van Houckgeest and Hendrik van Vliet; landscapes reminiscent of Jacob van Ruisdael and Philips Koninck; borrowings from Paulus Potter; and, as can be seen from the present landscape - and, for example, a Moonlit Landscape in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam - a group of works in the manner of Aert van der Neer.
