At the time of the sale in 1995, the attribution to Justus van Huysum was confirmed by Dr. Sam Segal.

Justus van Huysum is known to have studied with Nicolaes Berchem and painted an eclectic array of subjects, including portraits, marine scenes, landscapes, history and battle paintings, but was best known for his flower pieces.
